Luke 24:45 “Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.”
John 16:13 “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”
Reflection
Jesus opened the disciples’ understanding so they could understand the scriptures.
These people lived with Jesus and were with him at the crucifixion, like John, and lived every miracle alongside Jesus. They knew Him face to face and despite this, their understanding needed to be opened so they could understand the scriptures.
ONLY CHRIST CAN OPEN OUR UNDERSTANDING so we can understand the scriptures.
It’s not a matter of studying more, having better interpretation methods, or attending more seminaries. The disciples had the best teacher possible, lived with Him for three and a half years, witnessed everything, and yet their understanding was closed until Christ opened it supernaturally.
We can read the same scriptures a thousand times and understand nothing until Christ opens understanding. The Spirit of truth is the one who guides us to all truth. Without Him, we only have mental knowledge, preconceived ideas, human interpretations that make us lose the target.
Meditation for Today
Do I depend on Christ to open my understanding or do I trust in my ability to study the scriptures? Do I recognize that only He can reveal the truth?
Prayer
Father, open my understanding as You did with the disciples.
I don’t trust in my ability to study but in Your power to reveal.
May the Spirit of truth guide me to all truth and open my understanding to comprehend the scriptures.
Amen.
Blessings beloved
