Psalm 139:13-16
“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb… Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written.”
Jeremiah 1:5
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee.”
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
Reflection
Long before there was a body, a name, or a story, God already knew you. The psalmist declares this with astonishing intimacy: God Himself formed the inward parts, saw the embryo before it took recognizable shape, and had already written in His book every day yet to come. This means your worth and identity never depended on the circumstances surrounding your conception—however difficult, painful, or even marked by sin not your own—because God was already present, already knew you, already set you apart with purpose.
Jeremiah receives a similar word: set apart and sanctified before birth. This truth is so solid that no human condition, no generational sin, no circumstance of origin can alter it. And for those in Christ today, Paul adds an even greater certainty: old things are passed away, all things are made new. There’s no need to rewrite the biological past to find healing; the blood of Christ has already fully covered any inheritance of iniquity, and in Him you are already a new creature, your identity not dependent on a genetic moment you never had control over.
If there are wounds related to how you were conceived—rejection, painful circumstances, feelings of being unwanted—those wounds are real and deserve to be brought before God in honest prayer. But healing those wounds doesn’t require imaginatively returning to the biological moment; it requires receiving, here and now, the truth that God knew you and set you apart before you were formed, and that in Christ every old thing has already passed away.
Meditation for today
Is there a wound related to the circumstances of my origin that I need to honestly bring before God in prayer?
Am I grounding my identity in what Christ already did, or am I seeking formulas to heal the past?
Can I receive today the truth that God knew me and set me apart before any recognizable form of me existed?
Prayer
Father, thank You that You knew me before I was formed, and that my worth never depended on the circumstances of my conception. Thank You that in Christ I am a new creature, and every old thing, including any inheritance of pain or iniquity, has already passed through the blood of Jesus.
Heal any wound in my heart related to my origin. Help me rest not in formulas or imaginative reconstructions of the past, but in the solid certainty that You set me apart with purpose before I was born. In the name of Jesus, amen.
Blessings beloved
