Revelation 2:7
“To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.”
Colossians 1:27
“Which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

Reflection
It’s a legitimate and profound question: if Christ already dwells within me, what need do I have for God to give me something more, like the tree of life promised to him that overcomes? The answer reveals an important distinction many overlook: having the seed of Christ dwelling in us is the foundation of Christian life, but Scripture describes progressive manifestations, rewards, and levels of spiritual experience that don’t arrive automatically simply because one has been born again. There is a difference between possessing the life of Christ and experiencing the fullness of everything that life makes possible.
Revelation 2 through 3 doesn’t describe promises given indiscriminately to every believer, but specific rewards “to him that overcometh.” This implies there is a process, a battle, a system that must be overcome to access certain dimensions of revelation and the manifestation of Christ that otherwise remain out of reach. That system is what Scripture calls Babylon: a complete structure of thought, values, and functioning that opposes the Kingdom of God, not necessarily through open rebellion, but often disguised as wisdom, science, humanism, and reasoning that sounds convincing but has its origin in man, not in God.
This is precisely the trap that has kept much of the church limited: seeking revelation from human sources—philosophies, academic systems, traditions built by men—instead of seeking it directly from God. The seed of Christ can be present, genuinely alive within a person, and that person can still remain trapped within a Babylonian system of thought that severely limits how much of that life manages to manifest. That’s why Revelation cries out: “come out of her, my people.” This is not a call directed at unbelievers, but at His own people, those who already have the seed of life but remain bound to structures Babylon established.
Overcoming this system doesn’t mean a single dramatic event, but a continuous process of identifying and rejecting whatever governs thought from a source other than God, and submitting every area—intellect, emotions, ambitions—under the direct authority of Christ. Only then do the deeper manifestations of His life, represented by the tree of life, begin to unfold fully.
Meditation for today
In what areas of my life and thinking am I still bound to a Babylonian system, even though I have the seed of Christ within me?
Am I seeking revelation primarily from human sources, or directly from God?
What does it mean for me to “overcome” today, practically, in order to experience fuller manifestations of Christ’s life?
Prayer
Father, thank You that Christ already dwells in me, but I recognize there are still systems of thought, human structures, and Babylonian bonds that limit the full manifestation of His life in me. Help me identify where I have sought revelation from man instead of seeking it from You.
Give me strength to overcome, to come out of any system that keeps me bound to human reasoning, to science without God, to humanism that replaces Your power. May every area of my life be submitted to Your authority, so that the deepest manifestations of Your Kingdom fully unfold in me. In the name of Jesus, amen.
