Hebrews 8:4–5
“They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven… according to the pattern shown to you on the mountain.”
Hebrews 8:8–11
“I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts…
and they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.”
🕊️ Reflection
The way God operated in the Old Testament was never the final destination.
It was a figure.
A shadow.
A teaching language meant to prepare humanity for something far deeper:
the heavenly made internal.
The old system was full of meaning, but not fullness.
There were priests, sacrifices, rituals, temples, and feasts,
yet God did not dwell within the hearts of the people.
Everything was external.
📖 Hebrews reveals that this system served as a visible representation of an invisible reality.
Moses did not invent the tabernacle; he first saw it on the mountain.
Earth was copying heaven.
But a copy is never the original.
🔥 The New Covenant: From External to Internal
God Himself declares that the new covenant would not be like the old one.
📖 Hebrews 8:9
“Not like the covenant I made with their ancestors…”
Why?
Because the old covenant depended on human effort to obey an external law.
And humanity failed.
The new covenant is completely different.
It is no longer about a stone temple.
It is no longer about external ordinances.
It is no longer about sacred days or religious structures.
The new covenant is internal.
📖 “I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts.”
God no longer lives in buildings.
God lives in people.
🫀 Knowing God from the Inside Out
Under the old covenant, the people needed constant mediators.
Under the new covenant, the knowledge of God is personal, direct, and relational.
📖 “No longer will they teach their neighbor, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me…”
This does not eliminate teaching,
but it removes dependence on external systems to experience God.
Now He reveals Himself from the inside out.
Not through information,
but through communion.
🕯️ Meditation for Today
Take a few minutes in silence and reflect:
Am I living my faith through external structures or through an internal relationship with God?
Do I depend more on rituals than on revelation?
Am I allowing God to write His law on my heart, or am I trying to fulfill it through human effort?
Remember:
God did not come to improve the old system.
He came to dwell within you.
🙏 Prayer
Father,
thank You that You no longer dwell in temples made by human hands,
but in surrendered hearts.
Today I renounce an external faith,
obedience without relationship,
and I receive the new covenant written within me.
Write Your law in my mind.
Engrave Your truth on my heart.
And lead me from shadow into reality.
Amen.
