Revelation 19:10
“…for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
Psalm 119:105
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
🕊️ Reflection
Sadly, in recent times, much of what has been called “prophetic” has been deeply corrupted. God, however, has not changed His design. He desires to bring us back to a genuine, pure, and biblical understanding of what is truly prophetic—and what is not.
Scripture is clear:
the spirit of prophecy is not divination,
it is not utilitarian prediction,
it is not about resolving personal decisions through an external word.
📖 Revelation 19:10 declares that the spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus Christ.
This means that the prophetic exists to bear witness to who Jesus is—to reveal His nature, His mind, and His heart. Anything that does not point to Christ, anything that does not exalt His person, anything that does not lead us to know Him more deeply, ceases to be prophetic, even if it uses spiritual language.
🔍 When the Prophetic Is Distorted
In these times, many have fallen into a subtle form of spiritual divination. People run to the “prophet” saying:
“Prophesy to me what I should do.”
“Tell me what decision to make.”
“Tell me what is going to happen to me.”
But that was never the function of the prophet.
When we know the Scriptures, we learn to wait on God. The Word of God becomes light for our path—not a constant dependence on an external voice. God’s design is not that we live guided by isolated words, but by a living relationship with Him.
📖 Psalm 119:105 reminds us that it is His Word—not spiritual divination—that illuminates our steps.
🔥 The True Purpose of the Spirit of Prophecy
The spirit of prophecy is sent to bear witness to Jesus.
To reveal Him.
To glorify Him.
To align us with His eternal thoughts.
The prophetic does not replace communion with God; it deepens it.
It does not replace Scripture; it confirms it.
It does not create dependence on people; it produces hunger for Christ.
When the spirit of prophecy is present, Jesus is the center—not the messenger. The focus does not remain on the word, but on the One to whom the word bears witness.
🕯️ Meditation for Today
Take a few moments in silence and reflect:
Do I seek the prophetic to know Jesus more, or to resolve my own concerns?
Am I grounding my decisions in the Word of God or in external words?
Does the fruit of what I call “prophetic” lead me into a deeper relationship with Christ?
Allow the Holy Spirit to adjust your understanding.
🙏 Prayer
Lord Jesus,
cleanse us from all spiritual distortion and confusion.
Restore to us a pure understanding of the spirit of prophecy.
May everything prophetic in our lives bear witness to You,
reveal Your heart,
and lead us into deeper communion with You.
May we not seek divination,
but revelation.
May we not depend on people,
but on Your Spirit and Your Word.
Amen
