Luke 2:8-10 “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.'”
Matthew 11:25 “At that time Jesus said, ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.'”
Reflection
One of the most important moments in history is the birth of Jesus Christ.
The people of Israel had wonderful doctors, Pharisees and wise men who studied the scriptures and were very zealous in their beliefs and their theologies. And among all these doctors and Pharisees, all of them lost the target, having the most knowledgeable people of doctrine, they lost the target of recognizing Jesus Christ.
Because they had made so many preconceived ideas.
Their religious systems, their mental structures, their theological bubbles prevented them from seeing what was right in front of them. They knew the scriptures, but they lost the target.
So the eye of the Lord is looking toward Israel and finds these shepherds in the fields.
And they had a humble heart, to listen to an angel, believe an angel, and run toward the Lord’s promise. They didn’t have doctorates, they didn’t have complex theological systems. But they had the most important thing: an open heart, without preconceived ideas that would prevent them from seeing the truth.
Meditation for Today
Do I have preconceived ideas that prevent me from seeing what God is doing now? Am I like the doctors who lost the target, or like the shepherds with humble hearts?
Prayer
Father, don’t let preconceived ideas make me lose the target like the doctors of Israel.
Give me a humble heart like the shepherds, capable of listening, believing and running toward Your promise.
May it not be my knowledge but my open heart that allows me to see what You are doing.
Amen.
Blessings beloved
